The Global Education Network (GEN)
The Global Education Network (GEN) currently brings together representatives of civil society organisations, government authorities and academia (National/International Coordinators). The Network supports the implementation of the Global Education activities of the North-South Centre, with members notably playing a key role in promoting the Global Education Week at international, national and regional levels. As an international awareness raising initiative, the Global Education Week relies on the active engagement of the Network members to extend its reach and impact, making the GEN a driving force behind the broader visibility and success of Global Education efforts.
The GEN members come from more than 40 countries across Europe, Africa and the MENA region. This diversity constitutes the network's core strength, fostering peer learning and intercultural exchange among formal and non-formal educators, policy makers and civil society actors, and connecting them with global education experts and stakeholders from other countries who bring fresh perspectives and share good practices.

Held in the first semester of the year since 2000, the Global Education Network (GEN) Annual Meeting acts as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and strategic planning, gathering representatives of GEN Members from over 40 countries. It is a key opportunity for participants to reflect on progress made, share successful practices, and deepen partnerships to advance Global Education and sustainable development at the international, regional, and national levels.
Key objectives:
- Bringing together and strengthening connections among GEN Members
- Reflecting on Global Education, sharing best practices and exploring recent developments
- Supporting the development of key competences for promoting Global Education
- Exploring and promoting potential joint initiatives and partnerships among GEN members
- Discussing plans and priorities for the next edition of the Global Education Week
Designed with a non-formal learning methodology, the GEN Annual Meeting encourages active participation and experiential learning. Through collaborative workshops, group discussions, and the facilitation of external experts, participants explore new ideas, share experience, and co-create solutions.
This event is organised in the framework of iLEGEND III: Intercultural Learning Exchange through Global Education, Networking and Dialogue (2022-2026), a joint project co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the latter.
National CSO platforms, international organisations working on Global Education and public authorities (such as ministries of Education, ministries of Foreign Affairs) are welcome to join the Global Education Network.
To be eligible, the institution or organisation must be from a member State of the Council of Europe, and/or a member State of the North-South Centre.
To explore possibilities of collaboration, contact us via the contact form of the website.
