The North-South Centre Executive Committee held its 34th meeting at the Council of Europe premisses in Strasbourg, France, on 21 May.
Following the accession of Libera as an associate member from 1 March 2025, this was the first meeting of the Executive Committee with Liberian representation, by H.E. Ambassador Teeko T. Yorlay, who had the opportunity to address the Executive Committee. Ambassador Yorlay shared Liberia’s key priorities and challenges, and how the country envisions contributing to the multilateral dialogue and cooperation fostered by the North-South Centre within the framework of the Council of Europe, highlighting Liberia’s commitment to the values promoted by the North South Centre and the Council of Europe. An exchange of views with the Committee allowed other members to express support and share welcome words with the Liberian representative.
During the meeting, the members adopted a revised version of the Regulations of the North-South Prize. The meeting was also an opportunity to present the progress made since the last meeting in October 2024, and highlight the main achievements of the Human Rights Education for Youth (HEY) Programme.
The 34th meeting was followed by the 2025 edition of the North-South Dialogues, under the theme “From competition to cooperation: The power of sport as a tool for development and inclusion”.
The next meeting of the Executive Committee will take place in Lisbon, back-to-back to the Award Ceremony of the 2024 North-South Prize of the Council of Europe and the Lisbon Forum at the end of October.
