GREVIO receives the state report for Turkey

The state report from Turkey was received by GREVIO on 3 July 2017, and is published today in accordance with Rule 33, paragraph 6 of GREVIO’s Rules of Procedure.

The Group will consider it together with Turkish representatives at its 12th meeting scheduled to take place from 9 - 13 October 2017 in Strasbourg. GREVIO plans to carry out an evaluation visit to Turkey in November 2017 in order to assess the situation on the ground. The Group will then draw up and adopt its evaluation report in the course of 2018.

HIGHLIGHT

On the eve of the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Istanbul Convention, the Council of Europe is organising a conference entitled “United around gender equality: making space for women and girls”, in Strasbourg, on 30 May 2024.

This event, organised under the aegis of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, will officially launch the Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2024-2029 and mark the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

 

EU and Istanbul Convention

The European Union has published a video reaffirming the importance of the Istanbul Convention, across Europe and beyond.
The EU and the Council of Europe will reinforce their co-operation and continue to work together to end gender-based violence against women and promote gender equality.

GREVIO and the EDVAW Platform

On 8 March 2024 the Platform of Independent Expert Mechanisms on Discrimination and Violence against Women (EDVAW Platform), including GREVIO, published a joint statement on International Women’s Day. The experts highlight the urgent need to address the intersection of gender-based violence and poverty. They emphasize that despite efforts, discrimination against women persists, exacerbated by crises like COVID-19, wars and climate change and they urge for legislative reforms, inclusive policies, and increased resources to empower women and girls.
