The Second Steering Committee meeting of the Council of Europe project “Enhancing Social Human Rights in Armenia” was held on 2 April 2025 in Yerevan, Armenia. The event brought together key stakeholders to review progress and outline priorities for 2025.

The meeting featured welcome remarks from Vedran Ian-Kjeldsen, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan; Vladimir Hovhannisyan, Head of Department General for Protection of Civil, Socio-Economic, and Cultural Rights at Armenia’s Human Rights Defender’s Office; Heriknaz Tigranyan Member of the Parliament, National Assembly of Armenia, Chair of the Standing Committee of Labour and Social Affairs, and Margarita Galstyan, Head of the Cooperation Unit, Department of Social Rights, Council of Europe.

The project's 2024 achievements were also presented with a focus on the Report on Social Housing Strategies aligned with the European Social Charter, prepared by the Council of Europe consultant Professor Padraic Kenna from the University of Galway, Ireland.  

A discussion followed on key social rights priorities for 2025, involving representatives from the Armenian government, Parliament, and the Human Rights Defender’s Office, civil society organisations and trade unions.

This initiative is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2023-2026, aimed at strengthening social human rights in the country.
