Social Rights

On 28 January 2021, during its 318th session, the European Committee of Social Rights elected its new Bureau for a period of two years. Karin Lukas was elected as President of the Committee, Eliane Chemla and Aoife Nolan as Vice-Presidents and Giuseppe Palmisano was elected as new General Rapporteur.

“Despite the challenging times posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and its very negative effects on social rights, there will be possibilities to further strengthen social rights in Europe, both legally and politically, emphasized the newly elected President of the Committee Karin Lukas. “The European Social Charter turns 60 this year and, not only for this reason, social rights feature prominently on the Council of Europe agenda. The Committee will support this process in the best way possible”, added Karin Lukas.

Karin Lukas was previously Vice-President of the European Committee of Social Rights. She is also a Senior Researcher and Head of Department at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights in Vienna, Austria.
