First meeting of the European Committee for Social Cohesion

The first meeting of the European Committee for Social Cohesion (CCS) will be held on 17-18 May 2022 in Strasbourg and by video conference.

During the meeting, the Committee will inter alia take note of the CCS Terms of reference for 2022-2025 and exchange views on the action plan for 2022-2023.

As it is the first meeting of the newly established Committee, the Chair, Vice-Chair and Bureau members will be elected.

The European Committee for Social Cohesion was set up by the Committee of Ministers as an Ad Hoc Committee under Article 17 of the Statute of the Council of Europe and in accordance with Resolution CM/Res(2021)3 on intergovernmental committees and subordinate bodies, their terms of reference and working methods. 

The CCS brings together representatives from 46 members States, from other Council of Europe bodies and committees, and from international institutions and other relevant stakeholders. The Committee members, designated by the governments of Council of Europe member States, are high ranking officials expert in the field of social cohesion and social rights.

The CCS continues the work of the European Platform for Social Cohesion (PECS) with an strengthened mandate. The activities of the PECS can still be consulted on the Council of Europe website.
