The Council of Europe, Greece and Portugal are organising a high-level side event at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly on 22 September 2026, at UN Headquarters in New York in the framework of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The event will address a central challenge facing our societies: how to translate political commitments on social rights made at the 2025 Doha Social Development Summit and the Chișinău High-level Conference on Social Rights (March 2026) into tangible improvements in people’s lives contributing to public trust and democratic security.
It will bring together high level speakers : Mr Alain BERSET, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Mihai POPSOI, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Ms. Domna MICHAILIDOU, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs of Greece, Ms. Ana Isabel Xavier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal, Dr. Felipe PAULLIER, Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs.
The broader objective of the event is to strengthen cooperation between European and international institutions, governments, civil society and young people, with a focus on turning political commitments into practical reforms and stronger social protection.
