A delegation of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) visited Czechia from 17 to 21 November 2025 as the first step in the preparation of a monitoring report. The visit was preceded by online meetings on 13 November 2025. During the visit, which was carried out within the framework of ECRI’s seventh country monitoring cycle, ECRI’s delegation gathered information on preventing and combating hate speech and hate crime and ensuring equal treatment and inclusion in education and healthcare.

The ECRI delegation met with representatives of the Government, including relevant bodies operating under the Office of the Government as well as under different ministries, such as the national police, and with the Czech Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsman).

During online meetings and in the course of the visit to Czechia, ECRI’s delegation also met civil society actors and persons belonging to groups of concern to ECRI, as well as representatives of international organisations. In addition, the delegation visited a school in Brno and met with representatives of a local council as well as Roma community members.

Following this visit, ECRI will adopt a report in which it will make a new set of recommendations on measures to be taken by the authorities to address racism and intolerance in the country. The implementation of two priority recommendations will be reviewed after 18 months from the publication of the report as part of ECRI’s interim follow-up procedure.

In its previous, sixth-cycle report on Czechia, among other recommendations, ECRI recommended that the Czech authorities ensure that all forms of de-facto segregation affecting Roma children in schools are ended.

It also recommended that the Czech authorities provide additional training for teachers on issues of inclusive education, human rights and tolerance and work more closely with local school authorities and administrators to ensure that such training is rolled out evenly across the country.
