On 15 July the Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC) launched the project “Electoral Development Schools” that it implements with the support of the Council of Europe (CoE).
The project objective is to stimulate increased civic engagement and better election turnout among Georgian youth. The training recipients are young people between the ages 18-24 from all over Georgia.
The ten-day (15-26 July) instruction course is raising youth awareness on issues such as: electoral systems, election administration, 1919 elections of the Constituent Assembly of Georgia, democratic electoral principles, elective bodies in Georgia, electoral stakeholders, transparency and accessibility of elections, gender equality, etc.
Following the successful implementation of project in 2015-2018, this year the coverage of the project has again increased, with training being conducted simultaneously in Tbilisi and 25 municipalities (Gurjaani, Sighnaghi, Telavi, Akhmeta, Rustavi, Gardabani, Marneuli, Dusheti, Akhalgori (Tserovani, IDPs settlement), Gori, Khashuri, Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Ambrolauri, Sachkhere, Zestaphoni, Samtredia, Khoni, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, Senaki, Zugdidi, Poti, Batumi and Kobuleti).
The training is being led by the members of the District Election Commissions and trainers of the election administration. On 26-28 June the CEC Training Center conducted a training of 54 trainers (ToT).
The project “Electoral Development Schools” is being implemented with the joint support from the Council of Europe within the Project “Reform of the Electoral Practice in Georgia” and the International Foundation of Electoral Systems (IFES).
