Back 15th Anniversary of the Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro Convention)

Celebration video

On the occasion of the 15th Anniversary of the adoption of the Faro Convention, the Culture and Cultural Heritage Division of the Council of Europe prepared a short video to celebrate this special date, based on the contributions on the experience and work in line with the Convention by various cultural heritage actors from different sectors and countries.

Mr. Matjaž Gruden, Director of Democratic Participation at the Council of Europe, highlighted the Convention’s novelty from the international perspective, while Mr. Bernardo Alabaça, Director-General for Cultural Heritage in Portuguese Government, shared the national authorities’ insights on the benefits of the Faro Convention for the society as a whole.

A more local viewpoint was illustrated by Ms. Sabrina Ciancone (Mayor of Fontecchio, Italy) who valued the potential of Faro Convention inspired actions for local authorities, while Ms. Violeta Đerković (Association “Almašani” and Novi Sad 2021 Foundation) and Mr. Cristian Radu (Mihai Eminescu Trust, Romania) highlighted the importance of the Convention for heritage communities and citizens.

Paraphrasing Mr. Gruden’s conclusion, we hope and believe that on the next anniversaries, even more partners from all levels will take part in the promotion of the Faro Convention and benefit from its implementation.
