Implementation of the National Horizontal Action Plan against Corruption in Cyprus

SRSP CyprusWithin the framework of the 2020 CoE/EU Structural Reform Support Programme (SRSP) envelope, the Economic Crime and Cooperation Division is assisting Cypriot authorities with implementation of specific actions envisaged by the National Horizontal Action Plan against Corruption. The project has started on 17 June 2020, and will last for 24 months. Through tailored activities, the project seeks to contribute to:

  • More effective implementation and monitoring of anti-corruption actions from the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan;
  • Strengthened corruption prevention through improved administrative capacity, legislative framework and risk assessment methodologies; and
  • Improved strategic communication and increased public awareness on the need to fight corruption.

Areas of specific focus include regulation of conflict of interest, continuing anti-corruption education, strengthening of mechanism for prevention of health insurance fraud, and awareness raising on fight against corruption.

The total project budget is 334,003.66 Euros. The project was funded by the European Union via the Structural Reform Support Programme and implemented by the Council of Europe - Economic Crime and Cooperation Division, in cooperation with the European Commission.

Launch of the SRSP initative on implementation of the National Horizontal Action Plan against Corruption in Cyprus

The 2020 CoE/EU Structural Reform Support Programme initiative for Cyprus was launched on 6 July 2020, through a virtual kick-off meeting of the project Steering Committee. The initiative is aimed at supporting Cypriot authorities with implementation of specific actions from the National Horizontal Action Plan against Corruption. The meeting was opened by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Cypriot Ministry of Justice and Public Order (MJPO), a representative of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM), and Mr Gianluca Esposito, Head of Council of Europe Action against Crime Department. During the meeting, the Committee agreed on modalities of implementation of project activities and discuss next steps in light of the Covid-19 crisis.

The project Steering Committee will meet every 6 months to follow the progress of activities and discuss project deliverables.

The activity was organised within the framework of the Structural Reform Support Programme initiative “Implementation of the National Horizontal Action Plan against Corruption in Cyprus”, funded by the European Commission Directorate General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
