To follow the progress of the Joint Project of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Further support to the penitentiary reform in Azerbaijan,” the third Steering Committee meeting was held on 7 February 2018 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Steering Committee was attended by governors, heads of medical units of pilot prisons, and other partners and the representatives of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building and the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan.

The discussion focused on the implementation of the project activities during the previous reporting period (July 2017-January 2018). The project partners emphasized the importance of continuing activities aimed at the enhancement of the knowledge of the penitentiary medical and non-medical staff about the European standards and best practices in the areas of provision of healthcare services in prison context and management of prisons. Work Plan of activities for the remaining project period (February-April 2018) was also presented and agreed upon by the participants. 

The Joint Project of the European Union and Council of Europe “Further support to the penitentiary reform in Azerbaijan” is financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe (September 2016-April 2018).
