A 5-day advanced training for future prison inspectors on effective prison inspection, including mechanisms for prevention of corruption and monitoring human rights compliance, was held from 14 to 18 September 2015 in Shtip. The training was delivered by two international and two national experts for a total of 8 participants from the Directorate for Execution of Sanctions, future prison inspectors.

The aim of the advanced training was to improve participants’ knowledge on conducting an efficient prison inspection and enhancing the inspection’s impact during the follow-up phase, including the drafting of the inspection report. The first two days were devoted to reviewing the prison inspection manual, developed under the auspices of the current project, discussing methodology of conducting prison inspections, improving participants’ interview skills and preparation for the inspection; while he following two days a practical on-site inspection was carried out in prison Shtip and the last day was dedicated to drafting the report from the on-site inspection visit and summary and main conclusions from the training.

The event was organized within the scope of the Joint Programme "Capacity Building of the Law Enforcement Agencies for Appropriate Treatment of Detained and Sentenced Persons”, funded by the EU and implemented by the Council of Europe.
