On 16-17 April 2024 in Sarajevo, 10 law enforcement officers were certified to deliver human rights-based training in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This activity is a part of a national trainer accreditation scheme developed in close co-operation with the cantonal and entity Ministries of Interior in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During a 4-month long train-the-trainers cycle which is based on the manuals ‘’Human rights of persons deprived of liberty in police custody’’ and “Manual for training the trainers in the law enforcement agencies” developed earlier with the support of the European Union and the Council of Europe, the 10 police professionals also improved their presentation and communication skills required to competently deliver training to their peers.
A core team made up of law enforcement trainers accredited earlier mentored their colleagues throughout this capacity building initiative by sharing their institutional knowledge and lessons learned from previous training experience. At the end they certified the successful completion of the programme by the 10 trainees.
The newly accredited pool of trainers will further develop training materials and deliver training to their peers with the support of the Horizontal Facility programme.
The action “Further strenghthening the treatment of detained and sentenced perosns in line with European standrds in Bosnia and Herzegovina“, within which the session was organised, is implemented by the Division for Co-operation in police and deprivation of liberty of the Council of Europe, and is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
