The Council of Europe continues to strengthen the capacity of multidisciplinary teams from 4 prisons in Romania to effectively manage prisoners with mental health problems.
This refresher training for 15 trainees with medical and non-medical backgrounds focused on the barriers that people with mental health problems face, both within prison and in the community, and how a multidisciplinary support team can help reduce these; the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to solve problems in crisis situations and instil attitudes reducing the stigma and challenging language and behaviours that impede acceptance, inclusion, and recovery.
Having completed this training, the participants are now equipped with further skills and knowledge to carry out their professional roles and pass the knowledge on to their peers.
The event was organised within the framework of the project “Further strengthening the provision of health care and mental health in prisons and other closed institutions in Romania” financed by the Human Rights Trust Fund of the Council of Europe.
