A team of ten national police trainers increased their skills and knowledge to improve protection of human rights in prisons and detention facilities in Montenegro by attending a 4-day train the trainers (ToT) session on 8-11 May 2018 delivered by experienced international police experts. The participants received theoretical knowledge, while Council of Europe (CoE) experts emphasized on the practical application of CoE standards with the help of case studies on real life scenarios.

The activity builds on the training provided during the first phase of the Action “Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro”, with the overall aim to strengthen the capacities of Montenegrin police officers to prevent ill-treatment of detained persons.

A second round of ToT will follow in June 2018 and national trainers will further disseminate their knowledge to their peers through cascade training session until the end of 2018.

The Action, that is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe within the “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey” and implemented by the Council of Europe, started on 1 October 2016 and will finish in January 2019, with overall budget of 750.000 €.
