The National Probation Inspectorate of the Republic of Moldova ready to deliver the new Induction Training Programme for the probation counsellors

A team of 12 probation counsellors from the National Probation Inspectorate (NPI) of the Republic of Moldova was trained on 5-8 December 2022 to deliver an Induction Training Curriculum and Programme on probation tasks developed with Council of Europe’s support.

During the 4-day Training of Trainers (ToT) session facilitated by the Council of Europe consultants the probation counsellors enhanced their knowledge on adult teaching methodology and facilitation skills, further focusing on understanding their duties, ethical requirements and knowledge to carry out daily tasks and meet the objectives of the Probation work. The participants were provided with individual feedback and further guidance, and appreciated the well balanced combination of theory and practice for building skills and competences for prosocial modelling of probation subjects, their resocialisation, reintegration into society, and preventing the re-offending.

The National Probation Inspectorate expressed the firm commitment to approve the Curriculum and start piloting the Training Programme early in 2023, by organising the first round of trainings for the probation counsellors that were employed during 2022.

The event is the continuation of a sequence of activities aimed at building a sustainable and efficient system for the initial training and professional development of probation staff, in line with the Council of Europe's Guidelines for the Recruitment, Selection, Education, Training and Professional Development of Prison and Probation Staff (2019).

The activity was organised under the auspices of the Project “Strengthening the prison and probation reforms, provision of health care and the treatment of patients in closed institutions in the Republic of Moldova”, financed through the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova (2021-2024) and implemented by the Council of Europe.
