Multidisciplinary teams from ambulatory prison units in Baia Mare and Craiova, Romania benefitted from on-site, face-to-face mentorship provided by three Council of Europe consultants from 10 to 13 June 2025.

This on-site mentoring visit provided the prison staff involved in mental health care a unique opportunity to discuss and reflect on the needs for future development of the ambulatory units and to seek the advice and guidance from the consultants who have supported them earlier as well.  Ultimately, this process facilitated an inter and intradisciplinary teamwork, contributing to further improvement of prisoners’ mental health care.

This activity is continuation of efforts aimed at enhancing the multidisciplinary teamwork to improve the treatment of mentally disordered offenders in Romanian prisons.  As part of this support a protocol for multidisciplinary teamwork for managing the prisoners with mental health issues as well as training of trainers have already taken place.

The activity was supported and organised within the framework of the project Further strengthening the provision of health care and mental health in prisons and other closed institutions in Romania (phase 2) financed by the Human Rights Trust Fund of the Council of Europe.
