Back Steering Committee members take stock of progress under the PER-VEO project in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The 2nd Steering Committee (SC) meeting of the project “Providing for effective reintegration of violent extremist offenders in Bosnia and Herzegovina (PER-VEO) - Phase I” took place on 9 July 2025, in Mostar.

Representatives from the three Ministries of Justice, Ministry of Security of BiH and Directors of Foča, Mostar, Bjeljina and Bihać prisons reflected on the project’s achievements, discussed ongoing challenges and planned activities, and unanimously supported the project’s workplan for the next six months.

The SC members emphasised exceptional cooperation with the Council of Europe, the results achieved thus far and reiterated their commitment to further strengthen their efforts in rehabilitation and reintegration of violent extremist offenders back into society and ensure sustainability of the results achieved thus far. 

The members of the SC also endorsed the monitoring report that assesses the progress made under the Strategic Guidelines for management of violent extremist prisoners (VEPs) in BiH and the related Action Plan (2020-2025). Additionally, they got acquainted with the results of the regional action on “Enhancing co-operation in the Western Balkans in managing violent extremism in prisons and preventing further radicalisation after release” implemented under the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.

 

The Project “Providing for effective reintegration of violent extremist offenders in Bosnia and Herzegovina (PER-VEO) - Phase I” is funded under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025.
