On 21-22 January 2019 the second meeting of the Working Group (WG) on the reorganisation of probation was held in Chisinau as part of the Council of Europe support to the national authorities of the Republic of Moldova in increasing the efficiency of the probation system.
The WG further developed the proposals on several feasible models concerning the optimisation of the institutional structure of the probation service as well as the creation of an entity to perform electronic monitoring. Introducing a system for the evaluation of the probation counsellors’ performance and the probation inspection was also discussed. Furthermore the WG worked on the proposal of organising a unified office in Chisinau and the reorganisation of regional inspectorates and territorial offices as well as increasing their training capacity.
The WG session was attended by the representatives of its specialised Departments of the National Inspectorate of Probation and was facilitated by the Council of Europe consultants. It was organised under the auspices of the Programme “Promoting a human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”, funded by the Government of Norway and implemented by the Council of Europe.
