In the context of continuing assistance to the Moldovan prison and probation systems, on 22-23 August 2019 a two-day induction workshop on piloting the Assessment of Reintegration, Intervention and Conclusion (ARIC) Tool for prisoners took place in Chisinau. The Tool covers pre-release from prison and post-prison supervision, and aims, inter alia, at strengthening cooperation mechanisms between the National Administration of Penitentiaries and the National Probation Inspectorate. It is to ensure a smooth transition of prisoners released from prison to probation supervision.
The event was organised for 19 specialists from the prison and probation systems (psychologists, social assistants and probation councilors) under the auspices of the Council of Europe Programme “Promoting a human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”, funded by the Government of Norway. It was attended by the Head of the National Probation Inspectorate and facilitated by the Council of Europe consultants.
The present induction workshop will be followed by on-site piloting with prisoners in three prisons and three probation offices within the respective geographical areas.
