As a result of the Council of Europe support, medical equipment has been purchased and donated to the Prison Medical Center.
This equipment includes inter alia electrocardiogram/ECG device, mobile ultrasound machine, blood analyzer with appropriate reagents, including a leukocyte analyzer, equipment for the safe transport of samples and mobile refrigerator. The equipment should assist the Prison Medicine Center to further improve the quality of the medical care provided within the Penitentiary Service.
Deputy Minister of Justice, Ms Arpi Sargsyan, and Head of the Prison Medicine Center, Mr Kamo Manukayn expressed their appreciation and gratitude for this important donation.
The specific needs of the health care units have been identified by national and international consultants prior to this donation through assessment visits that were organised to the penitentiary institutions "Prison Hospital", "Armavir", "Vanadzor", "Sevan" and "Abovyan". As a result of visits and in close consultations with the Prison Medicine Center an assessment report was prepared, reflecting a list of necessary medical equipment as well as a technical description of the equipment, which served as a basis for the donation.
The donation was made within the framework of the project “Enhancing health care and human rights protection in prisons in Armenia” implemented by the Council of Europe and financed by the Action Plan for Armenia 2019 -2022.
