On 27-28 May, a six-member delegation from the Special Institute for Persons with Learning and Psychical Disabilities (SIS) of the Ministry of Health of Kosovo visited the Social Welfare Institution for Persons with Mental and Developmental Disabilities ‘Mir’, in Kastel Novi, Croatia.
The visit focused on the treatment and rehabilitation of persons with severe learning, mental, and physical disabilities and to learn about the Croatian best practices in this regard.
The delegation got acquainted with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) governing the daily work of Mir Institute and its practical implementation, which was of particular importance as the SIS is at the early stages of implementing their own SOPs, developed with the assistance of the Project.
The participants also learned about other aspects of the work of the Institute including the management of emergency situations, drafting process of an individual treatment plan (medical and rehabilitative), best ways to ensure protection of the residents/patients’ rights, as well as the process of informing residents/patients (and their family members or legal guardians) of their rights.
The delegation used the opportunity to observe the practical side of work of the Institute including the organizational aspect of work of healthcare and support staff.
The delegation confirmed the importance of the study visit for further strengthening the treatment and rehabilitation of patients while at the same time respecting their rights.
The project expresses its gratitude to the management and the staff of Centar Mir, whose openness, hospitality and expertise deeply enhanced this educational experience.
