In the context of continuing assistance to the Moldovan authorities, in November 2018 the Council of Europe initiated a series of working groups to support the National Inspectorate of Probation in achieving the specific objectives set in the Strategy for the Development of the Probation System in the Republic of Moldova 2016-2020 in line with the relevant Council of Europe standards.
Thus, on 7-8 February the second working session of the Working Group (WG) for the development of the curriculum and the training module for the training of probation officers on drafting presentence reports was held.
Apart from assessing the probation councilors’ tasks and responsibilities in relation to capacities, by the end of the second session, the WG managed to come up with the draft structure of the Curriculum and a preliminary draft of the training module. One more achievement of the WG was a comprehensive analysis of an illustrative number of presentence reports drafted by probation councilors throughout the country. This analysis will be followed by further consultations with the judiciary.
The WG session was attended by the Head, the Deputy Head and representatives of specialised Departments of the National Inspectorate of Probation of the Republic of Moldova, and was facilitated by the Council of Europe consultants.
This Working Group is organised under the auspices of the programme “Promoting a human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”, funded by the Government of Norway and implemented by the Council of Europe.
