The Council of Europe Conference on Redefining power: Strengthening the rights of the child as the key to a future-proof Europe

  • Marked the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) and celebrated the Mid-Term Evaluation of the Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2016-2021),
  • Was organised in the framework of the French Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France on 13-14 November 2019,
  • Recognised the progress made under the Council of Europe Strategy, and intended to inform upcoming work to be carried out in support of the full implementation of the UN CRC and Council of Europe standards,
  • Discussed the opportunities for the promotion and protection of children’s rights in a number of “Power Talks”, was an eye-opener on a number of blind spots of legislation and policy, and triggered a debate on new challenges for children’s rights
  • Gathered more than 300 participants in a forum, to foster dynamic exchanges, explore innovative ideas with the participation of government representatives, members of parliament, child rights defenders, NGOs, academics and children and provided numerous networking opportunities.
