Montenegro bans corporal punishment of children in all settings

Legal amendments were made in 2016 to the Montenegrin Family Law of 2007, explicitly banning corporal punishment of children in all settings. These were passed and have subsequently entered into force. This brings to 32 the number of Council of Europe member States to have prohibited all corporal punishment of children.

More detailed information on the ban in Montenegro can be found on the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children website.
