27th meeting of the CEPEJ Working Group on Quality of Justice

The 27th meeting of the CEPEJ Working Group on quality of justice (CEPEJ-GT-QUAL) took place by videoconference on 18 June 2020. The Group discussed the possible establishment of a mechanism to certificy AI solutions in accordance with the principles of the European Ethical Charter on the use of artificial intelligence in judicial systems and their environment. It also addressed the question of the centrality of the user in legal proceedings, particularly in civil matters, as well as the way of effective and comprehensible communication with the litigant, in the drafting and communication phase of judicial decisions and beforehand, when drafting legislative instruments. In the context of its 2020-2021 terms of reference, the Group notably discussed the questions of training and mediation. The meeting was followed by a presentation by the President of the Strasbourg Tribunal Judiciaire, Mr Thierry Ghera, on the new national court for the dematerialised treatment of payment orders, with the participation of members of the CEPEJ CYBERJUST Working Group.
