A two-day International Conference of Lawyers involving lawyers from 11 countries took place on 8 and 9 November in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The aim of the conference was to connect the professional entities of lawyers and create a platform to share experience and best practices addressing modern challenges.
Davit Asatiani, President of Georgian Bar Association, Maria Slazak, President of the European Association of Lawyers, Cristian Urse, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia and Rusudan Tushuri, Program Coordinator at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Georgia, opened the conference.
The event focused on the role of lawyers during legal consultation and representation in court, the role of bar associations and private lawyers in providing pro-bono services, entrance into the lawyers’ profession and support for newcomers in line with European standards and best practices, as well as the drafting process of the European Convention on the Profession of Lawyer.
The conference was organised by Georgian Bar Association and European Association of Lawyers with the support of the Council of Europe project ‘Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia’ and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Georgia.
