On 3-5 June 2025, the Committee of Experts on Access to Origins (CJ-OR) held its inaugural meeting in Strasbourg. According to its terms of reference, the committee has been mandated - under the guidance and supervision of the European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) - to draft a recommendation of the Committee of Ministers to member states on the rights of donor-conceived persons to know their origins. During the meeting, the Committee had the opportunity to exchange views with key stakeholders - donor-conceived persons, a parent representing the association of patients and ex-patients of Medically Assisted Reproduction (MAR), a donor and civil society active in the area, on social and ethical implications of assisted reproduction from different viewpoints. The committee discussed the possible scope and principles of the future draft recommendation on the rights of donor-conceived persons to know their origins and identified additional, closely connected issues to be addressed by it.
