The CCJE has been delighted to learn that on 19 September 2023, during the 65th General Meeting of the Central Council of the International Association of Judges (IAJ) in Taipei, Justice Duro Sessa of the Supreme Court of Croatia, member of the CCJE Bureau and former CCJE President, was elected as the new President of the IAJ. The IAJ is one of the observers to the CCJE, and both institutions have always closely collaborated, exchanged experience and maintained dialogue. Justice Sessa made his remarks during the IAJ Central Council’s meeting and underlined in particular the importance of the CCJE standards for judicial independence, impartiality, effective decision-making, as well as for judicial profession in general.
Justice Sessa is warmly congratulated on this important occasion. His election as the IAJ President, along with his long-term contribution to the CCJE work and his in-depth knowledge of its standards, will allow for their greater visibility, dissemination and promotion at global level.
