Short description of the project:

Aims/objectives

The Movie-making after school club workshop started four years ago with the idea of developing students’ media competence in order to empower students to participate both actively and passively in civil society. Students learn how to handle different media devices and how to use them in a creative way for their own purposes. The children are taught practical film skills, such as script writing, camera operation, directing and editing, as well as acting and performance skills. They also improve their teamwork and social skills, but most importantly, they become aware of the role and potentials of different media in civil society.

Expected results/outcomes

The students learn the basics of media literacy, the importance of media in democratic societies, as well as the way they can be used in addressing important issues in their lives, such as violence, bullying, human rights, equality, cultural diversity, environmental problems, etc.

Changes

Students have become aware of their own potentials in making difference in their society.

Challenges you faced

The project has had great support from the professors at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Šandor Šetalo and Nikola Sekerić, and their students from the Department of Dramatic Arts. The biggest challenge was to provide all the necessary equipment to work with.

Time-frame of the project:

We hope to continue with the project in the future, as there are lots of students who are interested in it, and teachers and professors from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad who are willing to work with them.
