Strengthening the implementation of the RFCDC: Working Conference in Florence

Which approaches best support the implementation of the Council of Europe Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC)? On 14-15 November, in Florence, a Working Conference entitled “Competences in Action” will bring together academics, experts, teacher trainers, teachers and other school representatives from across Europe to identify and promote approaches that strengthen the implementation of the RFCDC.

The conference is organised within the framework of the education project Free to Speak – Safe to Learn – Democratic Schools for All, in cooperation between the Education Policy Division of the Council of Europe and the Department of Education, Languages, Intercultures, Literatures and Psychology of the University of Florence which will be hosting the event.

Workshops led by experts and education professionals will provide in-depth knowledge on the RFCDC descriptors, portfolio and reflection tool. Approaches supporting the implementation of the RFCDC will be presented including: the Service-Learning Approach, participatory methods and strategic communication approaches on how to handle controversial issues and other techniques that enhance well-being and resilience in schools.

Good practices from members of the Council of Europe Democratic School Network will be shared to highlight the role of schools as places where solutions to problems can be developed and practiced.
