Safeguarding Romani Language

In the framework of the World Day of Romani Language - 5 November - the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) in partnership with the Council of Europe (CoE) and the Plurilingualism Research Unit of the University of Graz is organising an International Conference Safeguarding our Romani Language, which will take place on 5th November 2020.

While continuing the international work on the Common Romani language the conference aims to promote the European Curriculum Framework for Romani, to develop teaching materials based on the Curriculum Framework for Romani, to support initiatives aiming at Romani language re-learning among Roma individuals, to organize trainings for Romani language teachers. I will also gather international experts with proven experience in the field to continue international cooperation and harmonize strategies and standards.

The International Conference, is part of the “Roma Cultural History Initiative” international outreach project, financed by the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO), which aims to produce and disseminate long-term foundational materials for the preservation and education of Roma language and cultural heritage, for developing symbolism for Roma identity, and for shaping a transgenerational understanding of Roma cultural history.
