For several years, the Council of Europe has held commemoration ceremonies on the occasion of the European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day (2 August) in front of the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg. This year, however, due to the COVID-19 crisis and its various related risks and restrictions, it has been decided to replace the physical meeting with an online video statement by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe. The commemoration of 2 August remains a key activity during which the Council of Europe underlines the importance of teaching remembrance and honours the Roma victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
