On 29-30 January 2025, Malta launched its National Training Strategy for Local Government, developed with the Congress support. Addressing the launching conference, Congress Director Claudia Luciani reiterated Congress support for implementing the new Strategy, designed to develop the capacities of councillors and local officials to meet the needs of residents. The Strategy builds on longstanding co-operation between the Centre of Expertise for Multilevel Governance and the Maltese authorities, and was developed in the context of a project supported by EEA/Norway Grants.
On the occasion of her visit, the Congress Director met Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli to discuss events to be organised by the Congress in the context of the upcoming Maltese Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers (May-November 2025). It was agreed to hold an event on “Women in Politics” and a conference on “Multilevel Governance approaches to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development at local level” in June 2025.
