Over thirty representatives of various institutions in Bulgaria including the Commission for Illegal Asset Forfeiture, the Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for National Security, the Supreme prosecutor’s office etc. participated in the workshop focusing on the presentation and discussion of the results of the “Assessment of the Asset Recovery Institutional and legal framework in Bulgaria”. The findings of the assessment were presented by two Council of Europe experts. The experts highlighted that while Bulgaria has an advanced legislation with only a few gaps, there are shortcomings in the implementation of the Asset Recovery. The experts highlighted the areas where the Bulgarian authorities should focus and provided a set of recommendations to follow, including an outline of potential approaches to training for the staff of various agencies involved in the asset recovery process.
