THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE IS LISTENING
The Council of Europe has drafted Guidelines on child-friendly justice
intended to enhance children’s access to and treatment in justice. In that process,
it has decided to listen directly to children and young people. Around 30
partners throughout Europe have been contributing to this consultation. This
consultation was carried out with the generous support of the Government of
Finland.
Questionnaire
A questionnaire was sent to hundreds of children and young people throughout
Europe to find out their views. Over 3700 replies were received. These replies
have been taken into account in the
drafting of new guidelines on child-friendly justice. The questionnaire is now
closed but still available on this website for information.
Many of our partners have not only publicised the questionnaire, but they have also
gone out and about to meet the children and young people in their different
surroundings. Their aim was to hear what children and young people think about
justice in all its forms as well as to encourage those involved in the justice
system to work towards its improvement for the benefit of children and young
people.
The links published under the heading "Discussion groups" lead to the contributions of the Kurt Bösch University Institute (IUKB), the Ombudsman for Children's Office of Ireland and Defence for Children International (DCI) - Belgium to this project. These give an overview of the type of activities being carried out by certain partners taking part in this project.
These partners reported back to the CJ-S-CH voicing the views of children and making recommendations to update the draft guidelines
