ECRI is a human rights body of the Council of Europe, composed of independent experts, which monitors problems of racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, intolerance and discrimination on grounds such as “race”, national/ethnic origin, colour, citizenship, religion and language (racial discrimination); it prepares reports and issues recommendations to member States.

Council of Europe’s Anti-Racism Commission to prepare report on Turkey

A delegation of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) visited Turkey from 2 to 6 November 2015 as the first step in the preparation of a monitoring report. New reports on combating racism and intolerance: Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia

Agora[13/10//2015] The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) today published monitoring reports on Austria, the Czech Republic and Estonia.

Austria: ECRI reports, among the main problems, antipathy towards migrants and online hate speech at worrying levels, despite integration policies and awareness raising.  [English] [French] [German]

Czech Republic: ECRI expresses serious concern over the lack of progress in eradicating segregation of Roma children in schools and the prevalence of anti-Roma hate speech in political discourse. [English] [French] [Czech]

Estonia: Concerns remain, such as higher unemployment in regions which are predominantly Russian-speaking, or the unsatisfactory implementation of the new linguistic policy in the upper secondary school. [English] [French] [Estonian]


Council of Europe Anti-Racism Commission to prepare report on “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”

Skopje[29/09/2015]  A delegation of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) visited “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” from 21 to 25 September 2015 as the first step in the preparation of a monitoring report. ECRI Round Table in Romania

Romania[21/09/2015] In co-operation with the National Council for Combating Discrimination of Romania, ECRI is organising a round table in Bucharest on 29 September 2015 to discuss the follow-up given to the recommendations contained in its report on Romania published in 2014.  [more]

Dramatic increase in antisemitism, Islamophobia, online hate speech: annual report from Council of Europe’s anti-racism commission
