YOUTH
Training and capacity building of young people and youth organisations

The North-South Centre’s objective in terms of youth is to provide training and capacity building for young people and youth organisations as well as to facilitate policy action on youth in development policies, reinforcing the role of youth as a fundamental force in the field of North-South interdependence.

“Empowerment of youth organisations and youth-led civil society initiatives in the South-Mediterranean framework” , organised in the framework of the partnership between the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the field of youth in cooperation with the League of Arab States, North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, Maltese Youth Agency (Aġenzija Żgħażagħ), Euromed Youth Platform from 22-24 March 2012 in Malta. 3rd call for the Seed Funding for Africa Europe Youth Cooperation
The Seed Funding for Africa Europe Youth Cooperation is a grant allocation intended to promote Africa Europe youth exchanges, networking and political participation of non-state actors. It aims at funding initiatives which provides the possibility for youth leaders, youth workers, experts and trainers to participate in Euro African Youth activities and youth exchanges projects. The grants are of a maximum 2000 € per project/organisation.
The seed funding aims to strengthen the role of young organisations as civil society actors and youth (leaders) ability to organise and take action as well as strengthen young people’s political participation in Euro-African cooperation.
Deadlines for submission of application
For projects to be implemented during the period 1 March– 30 October 2012 the deadline for submission of applications is 29 January 2012.

12th University on Youth and Development in Mollina - 18-25 September 2011
The University on Youth and Development was organised jointly by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, the Spanish Government (INJUVE), the European Youth Forum (YFJ), the Spanish Youth Council (CJE), the Latin American Youth Forum (FLAJ) and other international youth organisations. 2011 theme : “Youth Volunteering for Global Development”.

Seminar “From Millennium Development Goals to Millennium Development Wins, a Seminar for Youth Leaders of the African Diaspora Living in Europe."
The Seminar was organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in co-operation with the African Diaspora Youth Network Europe (ADYNE) within the framework of the Partnership between the European Commission and the Council of Europe in the field of Youth. The Seminar was carried out during the 12th University on Youth and Development and was held 19-21 September 2011 at the CEULAJ, in Mollina, Spain.

Third African University on Youth and Development, Cape Verde, 15-22 May  in Sal (Cape Verde) ;
The Third African University on Youth and Development aimed at creating a space for debate and reflection; affirmative youth action and the promotion of youth policies; global education and awareness raising for development; training and non-formal education; as well as intercultural and inter-regional dialogue in the context of Euro-African and Global youth co-operation. Youth Leaders Meeting on Youth Policies in the Context of the Africa-Europe Youth Cooperation, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 10-13 April 2011
The “Youth Leaders Meeting on Youth Policies in the Context of the Africa-Europe Youth Cooperation” took place in Addis Ababa on 10-13 April 2011. It gave space to youth leaders to build a common action plan on the development of the Africa-Europe youth dialogue and cooperation framework, and on the implementation of the recommendations resulting from the Africa-Europe Youth Summits.

The Central Africa sub-regional seminar on youth policies and the African Youth Charter aimed to provide a strategic guideline on how to use the skills, energy and innovation of young people and ensure an environment conducive to successful development objectives, constructive leadership, participation and  autonomy of the youth.

2nd Africa-Europe Youth Summit
The Executive Director of the NSC participated in the 2nd Africa-Europe Youth Summit which was held in Tripoli, Libya, on 25-28 November, preceding the 3rd Africa-EU Summit, at the same location, on 29-30 November. The Youth Summit was designed to offer to young people and youth organisations from Africa and Europe the opportunity to strengthen their dialogue and cooperation on regional and global issues and to promote their meaningful participation in the Euro-African cooperation, contributing to the further development of the Africa-EU strategic partnership.  More...

East Africa Seminar on the Africa-Europe cooperation, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 1-3 November 2009
This seminar was a follow-up of the Africa-Europe Youth Summit and aimed to bring together governmental and youth organizations to reflect on the development of national, regional and local youth policies in Africa.
