Global Education in Finland

National Report

As part of the European Global Education Peer Review Process, facilitated by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, a national report on global education in Finland is officially launched in Helsinki on 4th October 2004.

The report provides an overview of the current state of Global Education in Finland and provides perspectives on future prospects for increased and improved global education. It outlines key observations and recommendations for the future of global education in Finland. Recognising Finland’s considerable experience and comparable excellence, the report calls for the development of a national strategy concerning global education. Learning for a Global Society

GENE Report
(Global Education Network Europe)

The launch of the GENE report "National Structures for the Organisation, Support and Funding of Development Education" took place in late September at the London conference Learning for a Global Society.
This report gives an overview of the structures of support for development education in seven Council of Europe member states (Austria, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the UK), and shows important similarities and differences between the approaches taken in each country.

Jusqu’où va ton horizon ?

Cette publication regroupe l’ensemble des discussions qui ont eu lieu pendant un grand événement sur le thème « Europe, jeunesse et mondialisation » et placé sous le slogan «Jusqu’où va ton horizon?». Cet événement unique, qui a été organisé par la direction de la jeunesse et du sport, en coopération avec le centre au nord-sud et qui s’est tenu à Strasbourg en mai 2004, a rassemblé presque 400 jeunes, experts, personnalités et décideurs politiques du monde entier.

Formation pour formateurs actifs dans le travail de jeunesse Euromed

Ce rapport vise à présenter les contenus et la méthodologie du séminaire d’introduction du stage de formation longue durée pour formateurs actifs dans le travail de jeunesse Euromed - TATEM.

C’est un projet commun du Conseil de l'Europe et de la Commission européenne.

Ce stage de formation, mis en place en coopération avec le Centre de ressource Salto Euromed, a permis de développer et de renforcer les savoir-faire et les capacités de 30 formateurs intervenant dans des projets dans la région.

"Social Cohesion and Local and Regional Sustainability Strategies: The role of Civil Society and Local Authorities’

    From 24 to 26 October 2004, in Lisbon, the North-South Centre, in collaboration with Towns and Development and InWEnt (Germany) organised the Lisbon Forum on "Social Cohesion and Local and Regional Sustainability Strategies: The role of Civil Society and Local Authorities’. They discussed the importance of social cohesion in relation to sustainable development and the promotion of good local governance within

    the framework of international co-operation.

African-European Parliamentary Consultation on Children orphaned and Made Vulnerable by AIDS in Africa: Reprioritising International Agendas

On the 23 and 24 September 2004, UNICEF, AWEPA and the North-South Centre organised a parliamentary consultation on the rights of children orphaned and made vulnerable by AIDS. One of the outcomes of this consultation was a plan of action calling for concrete steps and measures to be taken by parliamentarians in both Europe and Africa to address this challenge.

Europe-Africa Dialogue - Process 2003

This publication includes summary reports of the three Europe-Africa Dialogue Forums organized in 2003 by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe. The aim of these meetings was to provide an open, pluralistic space for dialogue where representatives of parliaments, local authorities, governments and civil society from Europe and Africa could exchange views and elaborate proposals on how to reinforce the Europe-Africa dialogue on governance and human rights and contribute to the building process of the African Union and Nepad.

Report of the seminar “Women's rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region: women as agents of change”

    This seminar, which was held on 30 June and 1 July 2006 in Lisbon, aimed to establish an inventory of the evolution of women's rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region and develop, in partnership, strategies aimed at reinforcing women's real implication in political, economic, social and cultural processes.
    This report contains a synthesis of the debates, the conclusions and the recommendations, the texts of the presentations and the list of the participants.

Social Remittances of the African Diasporas in Europe

This first report on Social remittances of the African Diasporas in Europe, on cases from the Netherlands and Portugal, was conducted and drafted by two experts: Dr. Abdullah Awil Mohamoud (team leader) and Monica Fréchaut. The final version of this document has been enriched with the comments and suggestions from the partners of the “quadrilogue” (see Annexe II: the synopsis of the Conference proceedings and Annexe III: the list of participants).
