Global Education News is an electronic newsletter where national global education coordinators or practitioners can share global education news and best practices, useful thematic links and educational materials. It also serves as a medium for the North-South Centre global education network national coordinators' own use.

    Dear friends,

    This newsletter comes as a follow-up of NSC November activities in the field of Global Education (GE): the Global Education Week which theme “Food for All” invited educators and young citizens to reflect on Food security issues and poverty eradication, and the Lisbon Forum, which gathered experts from all continents to assess and share good practices in Human Rights Education under the theme “Creating a culture of Human Rights through education”.
    For both events the Global Education Guidelines as well as the launching of the online GE training course were and added value in terms of tools supporting educators and activists in their pedagogical work. In parallel, the programme promoting GE in EU new member States launched this year, mobilizing stakeholders around GE national strategies, complements this support for more and better Global Education in Europe.

    . Human Rights Education Associates, HREA, has compiled a wealth of resources on the human rights-based approach(HRBA) to schooling, which can be found in our new Portal for Human Rights Schools. The aims of this portal are: to provide viewpoints on the theoretical underpinnings of the HRBA; to present a range of HRBA practices that are emerging in schools worldwide; to encourage "best practices" in the documentation and evaluation of the HRBA by sharing resources dedicated to examining the most pressing issues in evaluating human rights education.

    UNDEF’s primary purpose is to strengthen the voice of civil society and ensure the participation of all groups in democratic practices. It funds projects that enhance democratic dialogue and support for constitutional processes, civil society empowerment, including the empowerment of women, civic education and voter registration, citizen’s access to information, participation rights and the rule of law in support of civil society and transparency and integrity.

    HREA organises specialised courses via distance education for human rights defenders and educators, development workers, and staff members of social justice organisations, international and inter-governmental organisations.The application deadline for courses offered in the first trimester of 2010 (February-April) is 1 December 2009.

    Nonviolence training provides civil society organizations with essential peacebuilding skills and concepts. These skills and concepts focus on ways to increase social mobilization and countervailing power. Nonviolence training aims to empower marginalized groups so that they can assert their rights, create their own opportunities, and access resources.
