World leaders promote child friendly justice

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, with the support of the Governments of Thailand and Austria, hosted a High-Level Panel Discussion on the topic of “Prevention of and responses to violence against children within the juvenile justice system”.

This discussion was held in the framework of the Third Committee of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, on 8 October 2012 in New York. These discussions allowed participants to exchange positive experiences developed at national, regional and international level and to propose recommendations that proved helpful in speeding up progress towards protecting children’s rights. The Council of Europe Secretariat participated in this discussion, sharing insights into its work on the topic, in particular highlighting the preparation, adoption and dissemination of the Child-friendly justice Guidelines.
