30 years ago, Sweden was the first country to introduce a law explicitly prohibiting corporal punishment and any other forms of violent or emotionally abusive treatment against children.

As a way to look back at what the legislation has brought to the country and to the world, Save the Children Sweden together with the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs have produced a booklet called: “Never violence – 30 years on Sweden’s Abolition of Corporal Punishment”, which was launched on 10th September at the Europe House in Stockholm.

The booklet gives an overview of the efforts and progress of the Swedish legislative process and awareness-raising campaigns, and its impact on attitudes and behaviours on Swedish society. The publication reiterates the necessity and importance of a worldwide ban on corporal punishment.
