Building a Europe for and with children

Moscow: 14-15 September

More than 100 international experts met in Moscow on 14-15 September to take part in a seminar entitled “Ensuring rights of the child – Ensuring Development of Society”. The seminar was organised jointly by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation and the Council of Europe, in the framework of the Russian chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers.

In a message to the participants, Mr Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, stressed the importance of combating violence against children and supporting families in difficulty. The main aim of the seminar was to review strategies and national policies designed to enable children to exercise fully the rights guaranteed them by national and international legal instruments. Topics such as “violence against children”, “child poverty” and the “social reintegration of children at risk” were dealt with in depth.
