Judicial delegation of Jordan carrying out a study visit to Bologna and Turin [25 March 2014]

A delegation representing the judiciary of Jordan, as well as CEPEJ experts and members of the Secretariat, will visit Bologna and Turin (Italy), in the framework of the Council of Europe – EU Joint Programme entitled “Support to the Jordanian authorities in improving the quality and efficiency of the Jordanian justice system », from 25 to 27 March 2014. The study visit will focus on workshops – co-organised with the The Research Institute on Judicial Systems (IRSIG) - on judicial time management, court management, evaluation, case flow and satisfaction surveys and on the discovering of the functional of the First instance court of Turin.

Launching of Council of Europe - European Union Joint Programme in Jordan [January 2014]

The respective launching event and first steering committee meeting of the Council of Europe - European Union Joint Programme entitled “Support to the Jordanian authorities in improving the quality and efficiency of the Jordanian justice system” will be held in Amman, on 29 January 2014. The first actions of this Programme will be an assessment by CEPEJ of the functioning of the Jordanian justice system, followed advice on capacity-building measures to be implemented primarily in the three pilot courts designated, namely the First Instance Court in Amman, the First Instance Court in Madaba and the Sahab Magistrate Court. The Programme also contains an element of advice from the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) on the implementation of the revised Constitution of Jordan.
The Launching event will be attended by Mr Bassam Al Talhouni, the Minister of Justice of Jordan. It will be preceded by the first steering committee meeting of the Programme, at which actions undertaken during the inception period will be reviewed and action until the next steering committee meeting will be agreed on.

During the same week, CEPEJ members Messrs Audun Hognas Berg, Jean-Paul Jean and Francesco Depasquale will visit the three pilot courts to gather data for the CEPEJ assessment.

The 12th CEPEJ newsletter is about the CEPEJ co-operation activities in the framework of the joint programmes "Strengthening democratic reform in the southern Neighbourhood" (Morocco and Tunisia) and "Support to the Jordanian authorities in improving the quality and efficiency of the Jordanian justice system", financed by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe.

First visit of CEPEJ experts to Jordan [18/11/2013]

A team of CEPEJ experts will travel to Jordan from 19 to 21 November 2013 to meet the Jordanian authorities in the framework of the Joint Programme entitled "Support to the Jordanian authorities in improving the quality and efficiency of the Jordanian justice system", financed by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe. The experts will start by evaluating the efficiency of the Jordanian judicial system, on the basis of the tools and indicators developed by the CEPEJ. Based on the findings of the evaluation, pilot jurisdictions will be identified in co-operation with the Jordanian authorities and recommendations will be formulated for the implementation of the CEPEJ‘s interventions under programme.
