Training on Forensic Photography

Pursuant to the Amendments to the Imprisonment Code of Georgia, the Public Defender and members of the Special Preventive Group from 1 September 2016 will be allowed to make a photo recording in the penitentiary establishments. For proper implementation of this mandate on 7-9 July 2016 a training session on “Forensic Photography” was organised jointly by the Council of Europe (CoE) and Public Defender’s Office in Georgia.

The training was delivered by national expert with the purpose to familiarise members of the Special Preventive Group, who will be charged with the duty of photo recording in the penitentiary establishments with the rules and the technical aspects of the forensic photography as well as description, functioning and working principles of certain photo cameras.

As a result of the training course, participants were educated and trained on how to carry out photography in the penitentiary institutions, namely how to detect bodily injuries, fix them as evidence and reproduce such injuries into photo footage.

The training was conducted within the framework of the project “Improving the operational Capacities of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia” funded by the (CoE) Human Rights Trust Fund.
