Working together towards better judges training on effective court review of corruption related cases

The High School of Justice trainers met to agree on the structure and content of the module on the effective review of corruption related cases on 3 February 2017. The meeting was facilitated by Mr. Paul Garlick, Council of Europe consultant. Through a joint exercise, trainers, who are also acting Georgian judges, identified the most important challenges Georgian courts face in respect of corruption related cases. These identified challenges include, among other things, an undercover agent’s statement and its evidential value, the corporate liability, legal covert actions and the borderline between bribery and fraud.

As a result of the meeting, the scope of the training module was finalized. The next meeting is planned for in the month of April for a Training of Trainers session, to be followed by a pilot-training delivered by trainees with the consultant’s support. As a result of this training planning cycle, the High School of Justice will be able to offer the in-service trainings on the effective court review of corruption related cases.

The activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the capacity of the High School of Justice of Georgia”. This Project is funded by voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Norway, Slovakia and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
