The Action against Economic Crime in Albania conducted a workshop on “Inter-agency cooperation mechanisms in Albania” which provided an opportunity for the participants to discuss the draft paper providing a gap analysis of the inter-agency cooperation mechanisms.

Representatives of law enforcement agencies such as the Albanian State Police, the General Directorate of Taxation, the General Directorate of Customs, the State Export Control Authority and the General Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering discussed with the Council of Europe expert tools and good practices to carry out reviews and gap analysis of their inter-agency cooperation mechanisms and ways for strengthening these mechanisms.

Participants highlighted the practical challenges encountered in financial investigations especially regarding the stand alone money laundering offence as well as the legal shortcomings concerning the financing of proliferation. They stressed the importance of providing formal feedback on the quality of exchanged information and requested for more joint trainings which will be provided by AEC-AL.
