The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Unit of the Council of Europe is calling on interested applicants to apply for the European Training of Trainers on Hate Crime Against LGBTI persons that will be organised in October/November 2019.
The training
This event is intended to capacitate applicants in the field of hate crime against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex persons (LGBTI) persons and to create a pool of trainers of different nationalities who can undertake national trainings when needed. Such trainers will be activated on a case-by-case basis, depending on the needs of the SOGI Unit concerning future activities.
The training focuses on the manual "Policing Hate Crime against LGBTI persons" and will be delivered in two parts:
- A first session on 15-17 October - Madrid, Spain*
- A second session in 11-12 November - Rome, Italy*
The applicants
The applicants must be members of law enforcement authorities such as police forces, border authorities or prosecutor bodies dealing specifically with hate crime against LGBTI persons. Applicants belonging to departments related to criminal investigation, rapid response, torture and ill-treatment and discrimination complaints, among others which overlap with the thematic, are highly encouraged to apply.
In order to select a diverse range of attendants and ensure their active participation in the training, representatives from different law enforcement services wishing to attend the event are requested to fill in the registration form. The training is open to a maximum of 20/25 participants (final number to be decided upon receiving all applications). The SOGI Unit will sponsor the travel (within the European continent only) and subsistence expenses of all participants, selected according to the following criteria:
- Geographical representation in terms of Member States;
- Relation of current role and service with hate crime against LGBTI persons;
- Previous engagement with Council of Europe standards in preventing discrimination against LGBTI persons.
The working language is English.
Application forms shall be sent through the Google form below by 13 September 2019 at the latest. The applicants will be informed of the result of their applications by 20 September 2019.
