The Council of Europe helps the national authorities to review the contingency procedures used in the prison system of Montenegro. As part of this assistance, two international consultants of the Council met representatives of the Police Directorate, the Institute for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, Ombudsman’s Office and civil society organisations on 15 May 2017.
Following the visit, the consultants will draw up an assessment report, including a detailed overview of current regulations, plans and practices to handle emergency situations in prisons and recommendations for the improvement of the overall security situation in prisons of Montenegro.
The Action, that is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, started on 1 October 2016 and will finish on 30 September 2017, with overall budget of 300.000 €.
